Lent Day 18 – Traitor

Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 5:20-27

Gehazi broke the continuation of the prophetic transfer of spiritual gift from master to servant as a result of ungodly action.
Elisha, the servant of Elijah succeeded the former, but Gehazi, his own servant, fell for greed by becoming a traitor against the decision of his master.

Like Judas Iscariot, his fellow partner in greed, many among us humans sell the trade secret of our employers to their competitors, we divulge the information that we are privileged to have about our bosses to outsiders, we become deceitful to our leaders, and become the source of pains to those that are kind to us.

After the healing of Namaan, the favour that Elisha rejected from the former was greedily collected, and with lies by Gehazi. It is one of the biblical assertions that showed that the gift of God in us should never be monetised. Freely we received and freely must we give (Matthew 10:8).

In every traitor, there is greed, there are lies, there is deceit, there is selfishness and self-centeredness, there is impunity, there is spirit of betrayal and most importantly there is wickedness.

Just like Gehazi, Judas Iscariot and Ahithophel, traitors will always lose out at the end of the day.

May we not become a traitor, through Christ our Lord.

Memory Verse:
2 Kings 5:27
“The leprosy therefore of Namaan shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow”.
