Lent Day 12 – Thou shall not bear false Witness

Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:16

Most times, false witnesses emanate from our bitterness against the victims and they are always infected with innuendos.

It was bitterness that made the rulers to raise false witnesses against Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:59-61). The allegation that the Messiah boasted that He would destroy the temple and rebuild in three days is as spurious as the false witnesses.

Thou shall not bear false Witness

Similarly, Jezebel raised false witnesses against Naboth as a result of his insistence that he would not hand over his father’s inheritance to King Ahab (1 Kings 21:13). Christians need to watch their actions and be spiritually upright so as not to make themselves a target of Satan for false-witness against innocent people.

In all of the bible passages about false witnesses, it is expressed as an abomination and against the law of God (Deuteronomy 5:20, Proverbs 19:9, Revelations 21:8, Proverbs 14: 5). It is wicked, satanic, barbaric, intentionally destructive and it is known with the children of darkness.

In Ephesians 4:31-32, the bible says that we should put away all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor and evil speaking. It further said that in place of bitterness, we should be kind to one another. Therefore, we must be a faithful witness and not a false witness (Proverbs 14:5).
May God cast all manners of false utterances in our lives into eternal dustbin, through Christ our Lord.

Memory Verse:
Proverbs 14:5
“A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies”.
