Lent Day 9 – Thou Shall Not Kill

Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:13

Killing is simply a direct attack on man and could lead to the extermination of mankind. Thus, man is commanded never to murder his fellow human.

In the bible, Cain murdered Abel, his younger sibling, as a result of unbridled envy (Genesis 4). This, brought to fore the primary causes for killing and the intentioned mindset of killers. Among siblings, step brothers, larger families on majorly inheritance, business partners, secular political opponents, leaders to followers, peers in schools, etc, the mind to murder one another is always about jealousy of others and these demon-possessed people believe that its only the death of their victims that would curtail their advancement in life.

I have also come to the point to understand that this kind of thoughts from the evildoers are either about having inferiority complex, refusing to accept their own destiny, vindictive, lacking forgiving spirit, and lacking the understanding of the reality of judgement after death.

Aside direct attack through weapons, another form of killing is the negative use of tongue to destroy the character of others. This particular one is even extremely common. Things that we cannot verify, things that we hear from others, things that we read on social media without taking steps to substantiate are being used to destroy others.

Thou Shall Not Kill

Some even make video and audio recordings to undermine the values of others, most especially those that are ahead of them. It is as if Satan has injected in the heart of man that rather than rejoicing with achievers, many prefer to bring them down by all means.
We concort lies against others so as to undermine their achievements because to us, if it is not about us, it should not be anyone. We do this without having the iota of idea that we indirectly undermine God’s plans for our life.

Every individual has what God has planned for them and if this is understood, there won’t be any need to pull others down.

In spiritual realm though, murderers of any kind could escape earthly judgement, but second death is awaiting them.
Our Saviour, Jesus Christ had false witnesses against him (Matthew 26:59). Despite this, they were the losers, for He received His crown. While Jezebel arranged for the murder of Naboth, the murderer herself was not spared by God (1 Kings 21) No murderer shall go unpunished, either now or the world beyond. Even when we are attacked in any form (Physical attack, social media attack, through backbiting, etc), we must never revenge because vengeance is of God (Romans 12:19).

Proverbs 25:18 says “A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow”.

We must know too that every fake or unverified reports that we support to spread in any form about people and that are meant to devalue them in the public glare is nothing but murderous act. Thus, we must take precautions. Let us use our time more for things that will add value to humanity and not otherwise.

May God preserve our life from the hands of beasts in human form, through Christ our Lord.

Memory Verse:
Matthew 26:52
“But Jesus said to him, “Pit your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword”.
